"Books From The Book Shop Press, Inc." |
 |
- Spanish Days in Glynn County -
by Mary Ross - originally published in 1920 in which she followed tradition and
confused mission sites with old sugar mill ruins. prof. E. Merton Coulter of the University of Georgia disputed her findings. In this book,
she makes the corrections, in ink, which the printer, Leroy Reagin, was able to preserve. Fortunately, Ralph Bufkin had the original copy,
with the changes, because at her death, the family discovered she had burned all of the books. The Preface is written and signed by E. Ralph
Bufkin. |
| - "Sketches of Coastal Georgia" -
by Margaret Davis Cate, Glover Brothers, Inc. 1931. A former employee called the shop
from an estate sale,
outside Buffalo, to say that an old trunk had been sent up there in the early thirties. Found inside the trunk was this booklet about Midway,
Sunbury, Darien, Brunswick, and St. Marys.
The dates of the book's arrival "into the North" and its publication date matched the time period of identifying "the Spanish ruins".
The Book Shop Press. Inc. did a reprint of the booklet in 1999. Mrs. Cate, also, incorrectly identified the photographs, inside the book, as Spanish ruins.
Is that why we have been unable to locate any other copies? Did she, also, destroy an entire printing when the truth was made known? |
| - "Our Todays & Yesterdays" -
by Margaret Davis Cate, Glover Brothers, Inc. Brunswick, Ga. 1924, Revised edition, 1930.
- An attractive light blue hard back, with gilt lettering. The Book Shop Press, Inc. jointly published a reprint of the 1930 revised edition, in 1999.
It was printed by the Reprint Publishers in Spartanburg, South Carolina. |

Hard and Paper Covers available
By Eugene Walter. A Southerner's Story of life on this planet as told to Katherine Clark. Forward by George Plimpton, Crown Publishers 2001. 295 Pages.
Eugene Walter lived an incredible life. He ate of "the ripened heart of life," - to quote a letter from Isak Dinisen, one of his many illustrious friends. His was the life of a literary bon vivant.
Among his close friends were
William Faulkner, Martha Graham, Judy Garland, Truman Capote, George Plimpton, with whom he helped start "The Paris Review", and Pat
Conroy. Walter won the Lippincot Award for "Untidy Pilgrim". |

- "How the Scots Invented The Modern World" -
Hard and Paper Covers available
by Arthur Herman, Crown publishers, 159 Pages. Mention of Scotland and the Scots usually conjures up images of kilts, bagpipes,
Scotch whisky, and
golf. But as historian Arthur Herman reveals, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Scots made crucial contributions
in science, philosophy, literature, education, medicine, commerce and politics that
have formed and nurtured the modern World ever since. |

- "The Boo" and "My Losing Season" by Pat Conroy
Signed copies as well as unsigned |

 |
- "Cafe South Cookbook" -
Southern Tradition with a Flair, by Merry Ann Finch.
The cookbook reflects the author's lack of pretense in
her comfortable down-home
style of writing. Finch also worked to make
the book extremely user-friendly with her
choice of design, text and format. Most of the more
that 200 recipes in this cookbook come
with a story. Her mother, for example, had a unique
way with biscuits, one that Finch is
quick to admit she never mastered, but she
nevertheless offers for the reader's challenge. Many
of her recipes she created specifically
for Cafe South's menu. Recommended by Frommers
