Crossing the causeway today, you can see the marsh stretches out to the horizon line on either side. This no man's land is a nurtient-rich system of bio-degradables efficiently recycled by organisms you will never see but who are responsible for the shrimp you had for dinner that slept in the river last night. Here in the marsh, the cradle of the sea, the central coil of life circles ever wider from these microcosmic food processors to encompass and enfold an entire food web...fish, shellfish, reptiles, mammals, birds. Us. It is in our best interest to nourish and preserve this marshland, for the gifts of life borne here cannot be replaced. Beautiful to see, protected by law, this vibrant yet fragile margin of land is the life blood of our natural resources. Touch it, but only with your eyes!
